I am a retired teacher (30 years in PA and 17 years in NC) and was a reading specialist for all but 6 of those years. I am a member of Grace Community Assembly of God in Smithfield, NC. I am a sponsor for Daisies and Prims, a leader for the drama team and the Forever Young Connection Group, and a soprano in the choir. This is my first missions trip. I am looking forward to meeting the orphans and their caregivers while we share the good news that Jesus was born to be with us in human flesh before He became the perfect sacrifice for our sins, so we could have the power of the Holy Spirit while we are here on earth and have eternal life with Him after we die.
Each time I go I am reminded of how the Lord is using the church to minister to the poor and needy. God's plan is to nurture and raise up the orphaned and the needy. (Psalm 113:7,8)

I was excited to travel with my father on my first trip to Haiti this past summer, and I am excited to be traveling to Haiti once again. My desire is to be a blessing and serve as I watch God work in and through His people.

I am so excited! God has certainly blessed us with the funds to go on this trip. My church has been awesome. I am 62 years old. I am Costa Rican as I was adopted from an Air Force family that was stationed in Panama when I was 15 months old. Due to being raised in the US, I unfortunately never learned to speak Spanish. Having been an orphan in the mountains of Costa Rica, I have a heart for orphans and all children. Whenever there is a chance to work with children, I will be there. I attend Grace Community Assembly of God in Smithfield, NC. I am an intercessor on our prayer line, participate in card ministry, outreach and, of course, anything to benefit our children and teens. I am currently taking care of a mother of one of our church members. I am so blessed to spend my time with this beautiful Christian lady. I have two adult children and one grandson, four granddaughters, and one great grandson. I became a Christian in 1978. I have been blessed to go on two previous mission trips to Romania and Costa Rica. Now, I'm off to Haiti. I so appreciate all the finances and prayers provided for this trip.

I have been attending Raleigh First Assembly since 2007 and love helping out with the children's ministries there, including teaching the 2 year old class each week and being a camp counselor for Royal Family Kids Camp. This is my 4th missions trip with RFA and 3rd trip to Haiti. Besides Haiti, I have also been on missions trips to Venezuela, Spain, and Romania. I have found that wherever I go, where here or overseas, that there are so many kids that need to know that they are loved and have value. This trip to Haiti is an extraordinary experience to show the love of God to thousands of orphans. A few years ago on this trip, God really brought it to my attention how God is love, and yet so many of these kids have never even known human love and are so desperate to know that someone loves and cares for them. When you take the time to show them that you love them and they are worthy, their whole countenance and demeanor changes. But even more than that, it opens up an opportunity to tell them about God and how He loves them so much more. I am so excited and blessed to be able to go back this year and look forward to seeing what God has in store the kids that we get to serve, as well as, each of us on the team.
